The Pipeline Registry PipeDoc for Efficient Procurement and Recurring Inspections

PipeDoc significantly supports plant operators in complying with applicable regulations throughout the entire lifecycle of a pipeline, starting with defining manufacturing requirements, documenting changes in operation, recurring inspections, and up to decommissioning, PipeDoc covers all tasks from pipeline management, classification, inspection tracking to documentation.

Legal Requirements

The obligations of an employer regarding the hazards posed by pipelines and the protective measures to be derived are defined in the Regulation on Occupational Safety and Health when Using Work Equipment (BetrSichV). Furthermore, Directive 2014/68/EU of the European Parliament and of the Council (Pressure Equipment Directive - PED) regulates the requirements for manufacturers, importers, and distributors of pressure equipment. As part of the harmonization of European standards, both regulations have been revised and have been in force since 2016. In addition to general changes regarding the handling and testing of pipelines, the classification of hazardous substances according to the GHS/CLP Regulation 1272/2008 is now also carried out.

Classification according to PED and BetrSichV

PipeDoc significantly relieves the user of the classification of pipelines. After entering relevant data such as nominal size, safeguarded operating pressure/temperature, and assignment of operating media, PipeDoc provides the classification result with diagram and category according to PED, as well as testing responsibility and cycle according to BetrSichV.

Clear Management

Intelligent filters and functions to show/hide specific information enable targeted research and a clear presentation of pipelines in a central list. With the context-based user interface, users have access to the required functions such as:

  • Creating, editing, copying, or deleting pipelines
  • Exporting pipeline data
  • Generating reports

Data Sheet and Inspection Report

The delivery scope of PipeDoc includes several reports, including a data sheet for documenting the entered data and the classification according to PED/BetrSichV, as well as a template for inspection records for initial inspections and recurring inspections by a competent person in accordance with BetrSichV.

Inspection Tracking

By assigning valid inspection reports, PipeDoc automatically determines the next inspection date and determines the current inspection status of the pipelines.

Continuous Data Storage

PipeDoc's data storage is done in a password-protected Microsoft Access© database, ensuring the consistent capture and documentation of large amounts of data. The labeling system guarantees that no duplicate pipeline identifiers can be assigned. Furthermore, data consistency is ensured through centralized management of operating media and master data.

User Management and Change Tracking

The integrated user management allows for defined access rights to be granted. Users log in using the system-wide Windows login, utilizing the Active Directory system. All inputs are recorded with timestamps and usernames and can be outputted in a revision report per pipeline.
